All Buddhas’ take the mind of Great Compassion as their substance
“True happiness comes not from a limited concern for one’s own well being, or that of those
one feels close to, but from developing love and compassion
for all sentient beings.”
The Dalai Lama

Welcome to Dharmagiri Outreach whose model of response to under privileged communities in situations of vulnerability is centred on meaningful consultation, facilitation and empowerment. DGO considers that the charity model of response is outdated and instead seeks to empower all members of communities it interacts with to participate in decisions that affect their lives. It also endeavors to facilitate the emergence of leadership through the transference of skills, expertise and resources. Currently projects initiated and supported by DGO are focused in rural communities in South Africa that have been devastated by the HIV/Aids crisis. The long term intention of DGO is to expand its work more globally and in doing so to cultivate an international community dedicated to service.
Dharmagiri Outreach is a Buddhist initiative inspired by the Bodhisattva Ideal which is to cultivate compassion in response to suffering. Compassionate response emerges from wisdom which sees the impermanence, insubstantiality and interconnectedness of all things. With this understanding the Bodhisattva claims no ultimate ownership and works towards the well being and empowerment of others.
